Sun Protection

With summer upon us (and it came at me very hot this year!) I wanted to send out a reminder about the importance of protecting our skin from the sun. In addition to aging our skin (the UVA rays break down our collagen causing wrinkles), it's been discovered that because it reaches deep into the underlying support structure of the skin, UVA is the main culprit for many melanomas.

Block those UVA rays on yourselves and kids (keep their fragile skin covered!!) by using an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen. You'll thank yourself as the years pass by!

I put your blog in my favorites not exactally sure how I came across it. But I was reading some of it today and just thought I'd comment. I want to exersize more and I like that you have lables for target areas very convient and inspiring.

As far as sunscreen goes I don't agree with you on that. I believe the sun offers lots of heath benefits and we need it. We can of course overdo and burning our skin is NOT good. Being out in it for long amounts of time without some sort of protection would probably not be good. I do think though that most sunscreens have many chemicals that contribute more to cancer then the sun would. So hats and clothing would be my sunscreen of choice. IMHO

Thanks for a great blog!

Thanks for your input!

The sun does provide our bodies with Vitamin D -- a vitamin that is sparse in our foods.

According to skincancer.org, "the simple solution to the deficiency is 5-10 minutes of unprotected UV exposure from the sun or tanning machines two or three times a week." (http://www.skincancer.org/sunscreen/the-d-dilemma.html?gclid=CLyOsN7JjZQCFSahiQodxgwlXQ)

Just don't fry your skin!!

Thanks for the reminder! My skin is very fair, and I need to wear sunscreen for most of the year!
